Inference-Based CBT for OCD: Webinar for Health Professionals
Price: $50.00 (incl GST)
When: Wed 27th August 2025
Time: 7pm - 8pm (AEST)
Location: Zoom
What is I-CBT?
Inference-based CBT (I-CBT) is an evidence-based cognitive therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Developed in the 1990s by Dr Frederick Aardema and Dr Kieron O’Connor, I-CBT offers an alternative to standard CBT. While standard CBT conceptualises obsessions as the misappraisal of random intrusions, I-CBT takes a different approach.
In I-CBT, obsessions are seen as doubts that come about through prior reasoning. The reasoning process that underpins doubts can be very powerful and convincing, undermining the person’s “common sense” and self-trust.
Hence, this treatment aims to help individuals with OCD resolve their obsessional doubts by understanding their own reasoning narratives, and building self-trust in their inner and outer senses.
Webinar Overview:
In this 60-minute webinar, Dr David Cooper and Dr Cassie Lavell will provide an overview of I-CBT for OCD to health professionals looking to adopt this approach with their clients. Attendees of the webinar will learn the following:
The inference-based model of OCD
An introduction to the I-CBT treatment process
The current status of empirical evidence for I-CBT
When to use I-CBT versus other approaches
How to get started using I-CBT in your practice
There will be opportunities for questions throughout and at the end of the webinar. A recording will be available for 2-months after the webinar for those who cannot attend live. A certificate of attendance will also be provided.
The webinar is suitable for health professionals who work therapeutically with clients with OCD, including psychologists, counsellors, social workers, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists. Prior knowledge of the clinical phenomenology of OCD is considered a prerequisite for the webinar.
