Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects approximately 2% of children and adolescents, yet it is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Many therapists express a lack of training in delivering CBT for OCD, and families often have difficulty finding a therapist confident to treat their child’s symptoms.

This one-day online workshop is designed to build therapists’ confidence in assessing and treating OCD in children and adolescents. It will be led by clinical psychologist and CAO co-director, Dr Jacinda Cadman.

Dr Cadman (she/her) is a clinical psychologist and co-director at CAO who completed her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at Griffith University in 2010. After graduating, she took up a position at the Maudsley Hospital in London within the National and Specialist OCD, BDD and Related Disorders Service, where she worked with young people experiencing OCD, tic disorders, and BDD. Her involvement in clinical research trials has also provided extensive experience with a range of treatment approaches, including intensive exposure-based therapies.

An experienced supervisor and trainer, Dr Cadman has spent many years delivering workshops and providing supervision to psychologists working with OCD, anxiety, and related disorders.

Attendees of the workshop will develop an understanding of:

  • The clinical phenomenology and theoretical formulation of paediatric OCD

  • How to conduct an evidence-based assessment for OCD in young people

  • How to differentiate OCD from other forms of repetitive behaviour (e.g., stims and tics)

  • The current evidence-base for CBT with ERP (including its limitations)

  • How to deliver OCD psychoeducation to engage families in treatment

  • How to conduct ERP with children and adolescents and maximise outcomes

  • How to deliver OCD relapse prevention planning

Attendees will develop practical assessment and treatment skills via case studies, group discussion and demonstration of techniques through role-plays. The workshop is suitable for therapists working with children and adolescents including psychologists, social workers, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and counsellors.

A recording of the workshop will be made available for those who cannot attend live. The recording will be available for 60 days post-workshop. Please note: live attendance is more suitable for those seeking active CPD hours and who want to engage in discussion and ask questions.

A 6hr CPD certificate will be provided to attendees of the workshop.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder in Children and Adolescents: On-Demand Webinar
A$75.00

The Centre for Anxiety and OCD is excited to present this on-demand webinar for health professionals: Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) in Children and Adolescents.

BDD is a debilitating mental health condition that is under-recognised and under-treated. In adolescents, the disorder is associated with severe impairments in functioning, as well as high rates of suicidal ideation and attempts. Greater awareness of BDD among health professionals is much needed.

The 90-minute on-demand webinar will provide an overview of BDD in youth, the cognitive-behavioural formulation of BDD, how to screen and assess for BDD in clinical practice, and an overview of current evidence-based treatment approaches for young people with BDD.

The training is suitable for health professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, cosmetic health practitioners (e.g., plastic surgeons, dermatologists), social workers, counsellors, occupational therapists, and guidance officers.

The webinar is presented by clinical psychologists Dr Jacinda Cadman and Cassie Lavell. Jacinda has worked extensively with children and adolescents with BDD, including through her previous role at the Maudsley Hospital in London, within the National and Specialist OCD, BDD and Related Disorders Service. Cassie is currently completing her PhD at Macquarie University investigating risk factors and treatment approaches for treating adolescents with BDD, and has worked with many clients with BDD in her private practice.
